If you have a pain in your back, hip, wrist, ankle – pretty much anywhere – you might have a musculoskeletal condition (often referred to as MSK.)

You will probably start off by going to see your GP or a first contact practitioner and if they think you need to see someone who knows a lot about musculoskeletal conditions you might be seen by a MICAS clinician.
MICAS is delivered by GPs with a specialist interest in sports and exercise medicine together with advanced physiotherapist practitioners. They will review your symptoms and provide a specialist assessment.
The MICAS clinician can refer you to other services available at St George’s University Hospitals such as physiotherapy or rheumatology to ensure you receive the right treatment as quickly as possible. The image below shows the referral pathway:

Self Management
The getUbetter is an approved app that can help you self-manage your condition and recover day-by-day with personalised, evidence-based behaviour change techniques.
It is free to download and is provided free as part of your care in Wandsworth. It only refers to local services.
The app will provide you with:
- Easily accessible, targeted and personalised self-management information to help you day by day, and step by step
- Exercises based on your stage of recovery
- Direct booking of local treatments such as physiotherapy and well-being services within Wandsworth
- Reassurance and support to self-manage.
The app also includes symptom checking, prompts and tips, videos, exercises and tools to help you track your progress.
