We work in partnership with local practices and providers of health and social care to coordinate, design and deliver services to meet local needs, including those supporting people at the end of their lives.
Our foremost commitment is to the health, well-being, and dignity of all individuals under our care. We recognize that the topic of assisted dying is complex and deeply personal, involving a range of ethical, medical, and emotional considerations. Our organization adopts a neutral stance on the Assisted Dying Bill currently under consideration.
We believe it is essential to respect the diverse perspectives and values of our patients, their families, and our care providers.
Our neutrality allows us to focus on the provision of comprehensive, compassionate care without advocating for or against the legislation. We welcome the focus and wider discussions, generated by the debate in Parliament over assisted dying, on the provision of end-of-life services and the valuable part they play in supporting patients, and their loved ones, in meeting their wishes and achieving their individual idea of ‘a good death’.We believe the interest in end-of-life care can help ensure wider awareness of the services that are currently available as well as encouraging conversations amongst families, friends and carers around their future needs.”
Graham Mackenzie, Chief Executive of Wandsworth GP Federation
Notes:
- We work with the Royal Trinity Hospice to deliver the Wandsworth Care Coordination Service to provide support and coordination of care for people approaching the end of their lives, and their carers, in order to support them to remain at home if this is their wish.
- We work with Marie Curie coordinated through the Wandsworth End of Life Care Coordination Service to offer overnight care to support people with end of life care needs, allowing more people to remain at home at the end of their lives if that is their preferred wish.
- We support our community nursing and therapy services to deliver end-of-life care and support.
We support our GP practices to deliver high-quality end-of-life care to patients, their families, friends and carers, encouraging them to plan for and facilitating a good end of life. - For further information on end-of-life care services and the support we deliver, please contact our Head of Clinical Services & Governance / EOLC Lead: [email protected].
